Peter DeMartino joined ASG in June of 2010, were he is proud to lead our local response to the HIV crisis. Peter brings extensive experience in program development, quality improvement and public policy to his role as Executive Director. As ASG works to build community for people living with, affected by or at risk for HIV or AIDS, Peter guides the organization in building our capacity to serve the growing needs of our community.
Christina DelZingaro, Director of Programs
Christina has over 20 years of success as a progressive non-profit executive, with expertise in financial management, program planning and evaluation, and grants management. Prior to joining ASG, she was Executive Director of The Arc of the Piedmont. A graduate of Randolph-Macon Woman’s College and of Averett University, Christina has her undergraduate degree in developmental economics and a Masters of Business Administration.
Penny Goldman, Operations and HR Manager
Penny Goldman has been with ASG since 2007. She started as the Office Manager and is now the Operations and Human Resources Manager. Penny is responsible for ensuring the smooth day to day operation of the agency, and all functions related to Human Resources.
Alan Cohn, Mental Health Clinician
Alan received his Master’s in Social Work from the University of Michigan and is currently a Licensed and Board Certified Social Worker. Alan developed HIV/AIDS care services in Southeast Colorado in 1988 and was also the co-founder of the Southeast Colorado AIDS Project.
Bic Kolcum, Mental Health Clinician
Bic received her Master’s degree in Social Work from Virginia Commonwealth University and has been a Licensed Clinical Social Worker for 12 years, serving at several non-profit agencies. For the past 3 years, she has maintained a private practice in Central Virginia with a focus on substance abuse.
Karen Ingersoll, Program Evaluator
Karen is a clinical health psychologist who researches ways to improve the lives of people living with HIV, focusing on helping them to adhere to medications and reduce the impact of addiction. She is an internationally known trainer on Motivational Interviewing.
Hannah Green, Public Relations Coordinator
A graduate of the University of Virginia, Hannah holds a Master of Public Policy degree from the Frank Batten School of Leadership and Public Policy. Hannah works with the Marketing Committee, the Advocacy Taskforce, and is the staff Chair of the 2011 AIDS Walk. She administers Project Thrive and is the Coordinator of the Community Mental Health and Wellness Coalition.
Christopher Barnett, Testing Coordinator
From Free Union, Virginia, Chris has worked at ASG since 2007. He is currently attending the Art Institute of Pittsburgh for Web Design and Interactive Media. Chris has been a crowd favorite at Club 216 as Gwyyn Kelly for nearly nine years.
La’Kisha Townes, Health Educator
DeKeace Morton, Outreach Specialist
DeKeace has worked for ASG for four years. She is a trained HIV tester and provides education and outreach for nine counties in our service area including Farmville, Buckingham, Cumberland, Nottoway, and Lunenburg. DeKeace also leads a “Walk and Talk” women’s group in Farmville.
Emily Johnson, Lead Care Coordinator
Emily received her Bachelor’s in Social Work from Virginia Commonwealth University and started working in the HIV/AIDS field as a medical case manager in 2008. Emily joined ASG in 2010 as the CHARLI Care Coordinator for those currently and previously incarcerated and living with HIV.
Jorie Barna, Care Coordinator
Originally from California, Jorie joined ASG in February of 2011 as a Care Coordinator. Jorie has almost 15 years of experience as a case manager, primarily working with adults suffering from severe mental illness and/or substance abuse disorders. She originally started working with the HIV community back in 1990’s, as a volunteer who provided bedside support to patients at an AIDS Hospice in San Francisco.
Meghan Chapman, Care Coordinator
Meghan began her work in HIV/AIDS at the AIDS Project of Southern Vermont; her work also took her to Chile, South America where she worked for two non-profit health organizations. Meghan continued her work in the field working at Planned Parenthood in New Orleans for three years as the STI Counselor and clinician assistant.
Rob Rodney, Care Coordinator
Rob’s career in HIV/AIDS prevention and counseling began in the 1990s working as a Youth Outreach Specialist for the LUK Center in Fitchburg, MA. Rob began volunteering at ASG in 2009 and transitioned to his current position in 2011. Rob also serves on the staff of Transformation Retreats, based in Richmond, VA. Rob is also a former Disney cast member.
Kaitlyn Wernsing, Care Coordinator
Kaitlyn received her Bachelor’s in Social Work from James Madison University and began her career with the offender population as a Probation Officer. Kaitlyn joined ASG in 2011 as a CHARLI Care Coordinator serving pre- and post-release inmates who are living with HIV.
