A big thank you to Brad Savage of Charlottesville’s 106.1 The Corner for hosting Executive Director Peter DeMartino this morning on the Community Corner segment! Listen to Brad and Peter talk about World AIDS Day, the local response to the AIDS epidemic, and the ASG World AIDS Day Open House! We are also pleased to announce that Governor McDonnell issued a Certificate of Recognition marking December 1, 2011 – December 7, 2011 as HIV/AIDS Awareness Week in the Commonwealth of Virginia. HIV/AIDS Awareness Week will kick off in Charlottesville with a vigil at the Rotunda at 4:00 p.m. and an Open House at ASG starting at 5:00 p.m. We encourage you to think globally and act locally about HIV/AIDS this World AIDS Day. There are several things you can do to get involved on December 1:

-Get tested! Know your status and protect yourself and your family. If you’ve never been tested for HIV, set a goal to get tested on or before World AIDS Day. We offer free, confidential HIV testing in a safe environment Monday – Friday between 12:00 p.m. and 4:00 p.m. Results in 20 minutes!

-Learn more about HIV/AIDS and what we’re doing to support those living with, affected by, or at risk for HIV or AIDS at our Open House on Thursday, December 1 from 5:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m.

-Talk with your family and friends about World AIDS Day and what World AIDS Day means to you.
